CAFE 2000: Educators Meet to Continue Their Education

For Immediate Release

August 5, 1999

Ithaca, New York—On August 1-3, 1999, educators from ten organizations met to learn about the leading computer software technology in the foodservice industry. What do these organizations have in common? They are all members of The CAFE Society (Computer Applications in Foodservice Education), a group of foodservice educators dedicated to bringing the best and the most valuable resources to their students. The CAFE Society at The CBORD Group provides them with the tools to achieve their goal.

The CAFE Society was started at the CBORD Group to give foodservice students the hands-on experience that puts them ahead of other industry professionals. CAFE members integrate CBORD's software into their curricula to show their students how to run a foodservice operation using computer automation.

During the three-day training meeting in Ithaca, attendees received comprehensive training on CBORD's Menu Management System for Windows. The session also provided an organizational overview of the CAFE 2000 plan for member organizations as well as detailed instructions for teaching professionals how to use CBORD's systems and using training materials in their curricula.

Some of the attendees had never been able to investigate the new Windows-based system before this training session. Sarah Labensky, director of Culinary Arts at Mississippi University for Women, said, "I thought it was incredibly intuitive." Other long-time CAFE members already familiar with the DOS version of CBORD's Menu Management System gladly welcomed the power of CBORD's Windows-based system. Jim Painter, professor at University of Illinois at Urbana, mentioned "The new windows product has come a long way."

After the third day of training, the attendees left Ithaca with the knowledge, experience, and tools to teach their students how to be tomorrow's leaders in the foodservice industry.
