Employee ID Badge Cashless System

In April 2002 the CBORDŽ Odyssey PCS™ cashless system was installed at the University of Iowa Health Care. Prior to installing the CBORD Odyssey PCS system, Iowa operated a system put in place in 1997 by administrators.

The University of Iowa Health Care implemented the Odyssey PCS system to improve employee convenience by offering an easy payroll deduction or declining balance ID badge system for their staff's and students' on-site spending needs. By implementing the new system, staff members are able to use their ID badge and cashless card all in one. In addition, the new one-card ID badge system means higher security by reducing the need for staff to carry cash.

The Odyssey PCS system also allows for better flexibility and user-friendly methods of reporting, automatic tracking, and easy-to-operate touch screens on the Micros 3700 terminals.

Currently, over 75% of the staff use the Odyssey PCS cashless system. The students and staff members sign up through human resources when they receive their ID badge. At this time, the University of Iowa Health Care has 4 main charging plans and 150 tender types (accounts).

According to Joan Dolezal, Director of Department Food & Nutrition, "One of the real key decisions in going with CBORD's Odyssey PCS was the ability to bring vending into the mix. We wanted to allow the staff to use online vending with their ID badge as well." The University of Iowa Health Care currently has 20 of its 60 vending machines online and has plans to convert the remaining machines soon. Since installing Odyssey PCS, the University of Iowa Health Care's vending sales have increased 42%.
